Capitals Fall to Bruins

At least Jakub Vrana scored. (Caps Outsider)

The Capitals have looked solid lately, even without Alex Ovechkin. However, Monday was not one of those days, as Washington fell to the Boston Bruins 4-1 just before the holiday break.

After recently winning 10 consecutive games on the road, the Caps have now dropped their last three contests away from home.

Washington wasn’t really able to get much going throughout the game, as they only had a season-low 11 shots on goal. The Bruins fared better with 22 shots.

The lone goal from the Capitals came in the middle frame when Jakub Vrana scored a one-timer on the power play to tie the game at 1-1. Vrana now has seven tallies on the season.

In the third period, Washington was given a five-minute power play after Boston’s Oliver Wahlstrom was ejected for a hit on Martin Fehervary. However, the Capitals were not able to get a single shot on goal throughout those five minutes, epitomizing the team’s performance on the night. At the time, the game was tied, 1-1.

The Caps also committed six penalties, with Justin Brazeau of the Bruins scoring the first tally on the man advantage in the opening period.

Boston broke the 1-1 tie in the third with an Elias Lindholm backhand goal that faked out Charlie Lindgren. This was followed by two more tallies from Charlie Coyle and Brad Marchand.
