Caps Get Biggest Win of Season

Posted April 12, 2022

Matt Irwin scored his first goal as a Cap after having a kid and we didn’t know until after he left the press conference. (Caps Outsider)

It’s been well more than a month since the Caps had a convincing home victory as they did against the Flyers on Tuesday, this time with a 9-2 win. The last time they had a home victory of more than three goals was a 5-2 win against the Seattle Kraken on March 5, and a 4-0 win against Carolina two days earlier. In fact, it was the first time since the Caps scored nine goals since 2008.

Sure, the Flyers aren’t a good team, but the Caps, with a four-game winning streak, are trending in the right direction down the stretch.

Meanwhile, Alex Ovechkin scored his 46th goal of the year. Matt Irwin, who had a newborn recently, had his first goal as a Cap, and Johan Larsson also had his first goal as a Cap.

Marcus Johansson was one of only two Caps skaters who didn’t have a point. The other was Nick Jensen, whose wife also had a baby the other day.

The seven-goal victory also boosted them back to .500 in all-time goal differential. They’ve scored 11,692 goals, and given up as many in their history.

Here are all the Caps goals:

Johan Larsson #9

Garnet Hathaway #8

Lars Eller #7

Matt Irwin #6

Conor Sheary #5

Lars Eller, #4

Martin Fehervary #3

T.J. Oshie #2

Alex Ovechkin #1
