Capitals Introduce Lexus Breakaway Challenge

During the 2nd intermission of tonight’s game against New Jersey’s AHL affiliate, the Capitals hosted an exciting new intermission competition, the Lexus Breakaway Challenge. Utilizing their new ice projection technology, they projected a track on the ice, and three fans competed by driving pedal carts around the course. It’s a little bit like a real life Mario Kart game on ice, but we’re sure they didn’t pay the licensing rights. Apparently the winner of the race advanced to the finals to be contested at the end of the season. The winner of that competition will receive VIP trip to a Capitals Away Game.

The promotion is sponsored by Lexus, and features a new Lexus UX wrapped in Capitals goodness on the ice. Combined with the new 3rd Olympic Ice Resurfacer, it created for quite a traffic jam during intermission.
