First Morning Skate of the Season!

(Photos by Caps Outsider)

Put your Washington Capitals Jersey on and head downtown to the viewing party, because the Capitals are back and ready for tonight’s game against the Boston Bruins!

This morning, we visited the Washington Capitals at their first morning skate of the season at Medstar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington VA. The place was packed with happy fans who displayed their excitement for the start of the 2018-2019 hockey season. There, we were able to see backup goalie Pheonix Copley who was very focused listening to the goaltending coach, Scott Murray. This is the second season of coach Murray as the Capital’s goaltending coach, as he had spent the previous four seasons with the Hershey Bears. Coach Murray did an excellent job with Branden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer last season. Grubauer finished with a 15-7-2, a 1.99 goals against average and a .935 save percentage.  Copley, who was only able to play one game last season, is the only backup goalie with NHL experience that the Washington Capitals have at the moment.

Jacob Vrana and Jayson Megna, stayed extra time playing with Hunter Schrauger, 17 year old Michigan native who is part of the Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic Foundation.
