Alex Chiasson Gets First Star of Game

(Caps Outsider)

With a goal and two assists in Friday’s 6-3 Caps win against the Islanders on Friday, the player of the game could only go to the player with the most points.

And that happened to be……. Alex Chiasson.

Yes, the often scratched player had a goal and two assists in 14:18 of ice time. With Chandler Stephenson and Brett Connolly the scratches Friday, a game like that will make it hard to take Chiasson out of the lineup.

“It’s part of the game. It’s a healthy competition between each other,” Chiasson said of being in and out of the lineup along with other players fighting for the spot. “Selfishly, I want to play. This time of the year, these are the best games to be in. They mean a lot. I think my game can help the team going forward, but it’s one day at a time.”

Coach Barry Trotz said that Chiasson certainly made a statement to him and everyone else.

We’ll see if that carries over to Sunday, when the Caps face the Flyers..
