The event wasn’t billed as an “Autograph Session for Dogs with Caps Center Jay Beagle,” but fans rounded the corners with their pooches anyway during a rainy Saturday afternoon at Sport Chevrolet in Silver Spring.

Needless to say, Beagle, who had dogs himself growing up, was happy to sign autographs and pose for photos with them. Five dogs came, including two beagles, one of which was named ‘Jay Jay.’ Other fans said they had dogs at home named after Beagle as well.

Beagle, who scored the game-winning goal in Friday’s 4-2 win against Columbus and spoke to the media while still wearing his equipment long after some teammates already left, had his second autograph-signing session with Sport Chevrolet. The previous one was last March.

It’s not unusual for Beagle, and hockey players in general, to have their photos taken with fans and their dogs (the Caps even make a yearly dog calendar), but Beagle said that was the most number of dogs brought to one of his sessions to meet him. At this rate, his next session with Sport Chevrolet will be nothing but dogs rounding the corner.

Previously, John Carlson and Karl Alzner made appearances with Sport Chevrolet. Beagle, who has recorded radio commercials for Sport, came recommended by Alzner to take over sponsorship duties.
