Will This Preseason End Already?

Tyler Graovac scored a goal! (Caps Outsider)

We all know that preseason means absolutely nothing. Bad teams sometimes go undefeated in the preseason, good teams sometimes play like that Caps did Wednesday against the Devils (not to mention those other nights we’ve already forgotten about). Preseason is about getting the starters warmed up and getting several young players enough playing time to make an impression.

“We haven’t found our game,” Coach Barry Trotz said following the 4-1 loss to New Jersey. Though he has a lot of faith in the group, everyone knows they need to get some production.

Who made an impression on the Caps?

  • Tyler Graovac, who scored the lone goal for the Caps in the second period. “He’s pushing for a roster spot,” Trotz said, referring to Graovac, Devante Smith-Pelly and Nathan Walker. “They’re the guys who are scoring for us…. They’re all producing.”
  • Brooks Orpik, with an instigator, fighting major and misconduct. (ok I’m kidding about that one)

Other than that… it was another bad preseason game for the Capitals.
