Tough Guy Trevor Gillies Is Back with Stingrays

(via the Stingrays)

The man. The myth. The legend. Trevor Gillies is returning to the South Carolina Stingrays for his third season. Gillies has taken 200 penalty minutes over the last two seasons in 80 games.

Gillies is of a dying breed: The pure hockey enforcer. Yet he still has a place in the ECHL and is a fan favorite in Low Country (he even got a bobblehead this past season). At 38, he’s nearly a decade older than his coach, Ryan Warsofsky.

Tim McGauley said his favorite advice from Gillies came while they were stretching in between games in Norfolk. “He came over to me and was saying to me ‘Hey young wild, stretch the body, stretch the career,’ and that was one thing that was ingrained into my brain.”

Here are some of Gillies fights from this past season.
