South Carolina Stingrays

Stingrays Week 2 Recap: Coming Home

via @Sarah_Hobday

Following a strong Opening Night showing in the overtime loss to Greenville, the South Carolina Stingrays stumbled through their next four games. They went a combined 1-3-0-0, with the lone win needing the extra frame.

After the loss to the Swamp Rabbits, the Rays played host to the Wichita Thunder, losing 3-1. Patrick Gaul scored the only goal for the home team and Adam Carlson made 26 saves in his first professional start. The Thunder scored three times in the third period to wipe out the Stingrays’ lead.

Then it was on the road for a three-game swing through Florida. Again with the come-from-behind script, the Orlando Solar Bears hit the twine behind Parker Milner twice in the third period to erase the Olivier Archambault power play goal earlier, his first with the Lowcountry. Milner finished the night with 27 saves.

Ryan Warsofsky‘s team could not dwell long on the loss, for it was on to Estero to face the Florida Everblades twice in the next two days. With the script flipped, the Stingrays came from behind to force overtime, and emptied the bench after a power paly goal from Archambault, his second of the game. Carlson made 31 saves for his first professional win.

Out for revenge, the Everblades peppered Milner for 39 shots, scoring four times and walking to a shutout win. Anthony Peters had only to make 22 saves on the Stingrays to repel the offense.
