#CapsFightCancer Warm-up Photos
Tonight is Hockey Fights Cancer Night at Verizon Center, which is a special day on the Capitals’ calendar for anyone who has been affected by cancer. Unfortunately based on the numbers nearly everyone cares about at least one person diagnosed with Cancer, be they friend or family member. So when this day on the schedule arrives, we like to make sure we give it proper attention here at Capitals Outsider.
The Capitals invited 12-year-old Cancer Survivor Sam Becker back to the arena tonight for the occasion, and he was able to watch warm-ups from the bench. Sam and the players wore lavender Capitals jerseys with a Hockey Fights Cancer patch in honor of Andi Lambert, the late wife of assistant coach Lane Lambert. Andi passed away in September following a battle with cancer.
The jerseys featured players’ names and numbers in ombré twill as well as a removable nameplate featuring the name of the player’s loved one who has experienced a form of cancer. Lavender is the official color the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer campaign, as it represents all forms of cancer.
The autographed jerseys will be auctioned off at the MSE Foundation table located on the main concourse at section 104 of Verizon Center during the game. This year MSE Foundation will be using Handbid, a mobile-based bidding app, which will allow fans at home to participate in the auction as well.
