Other Capitals Hockey Teams (We Can Root For)

Just because the Capitals aren’t playing now doesn’t mean your Caps gear has to go to waste. You can still wear it, of course, but what’s the point in showing your team spirit during a lockout? Never fear, you can still put on your Caps jerseys and hats, and show up to cheer on these teams:

Washington Little Capitals

These guys are associated with the Caps and play in the Elite Hockey League at Kettler. Former Caps captain and Potomac native Jeff Halpern used to play for them.

Edinburgh Capitals

Here we’ve got a Scottish ice hockey club from the United Kingdom. No, they don’t play in kilts. Recently, a Google search for ‘Capitals’ showed a game recap for them, something I must admit that I actually read in lieu of NHL news.

Indianapolis Capitals

Unfortunately you can only get nostalgic with this AHL team, as they folded in 1952 after 13 years. They were the farm team for the Detroit Red Wings.

Madison Capitols (close enough)

AAA team out of Wisconsin. They have a women’s team, too.

Cheyenne Capitals Youth Hockey

This team shamelessly ripped off the Caps’ old Eagle logo, making the Jesus fresco painting restoration look like the Mona Lisa.

Des Moines Capitals

A high school hockey team from the Midwest High School Hockey League.

Springfield Capitals

Youth hockey club (using the Washington Capitals logo) out of New England.

Virden Oil Capitals

A team in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Jersey City Capitals

Youth hockey teams out of New Jersey.

Berlin Capitals

This team doesn’t exist anymore, but what’s interesting is that Brian Bellows played for them before going back to the Capitals in 97-98. (stick tap to @abramjfox for this nugget)

Lansing Capitals

AAA hockey – part of the North American Prospects Hockey League.

Wheaton Capitals

This is a beer league team, now playing in Laurel, MD.
