Bob Gould Memorial Fight Corner: Brouwer v. Hartnell

3/4/2012 5:33 1st Period

Kombatants: Scott “Rag Doll” Hartnell (6’2, 210 lbs, 58 officially sanctioned hockeyfights.com NHL bouts) vs. “Troll Face” Troy Brouwer (6’2, 212 lbs, 18 officially sanctioned hockeyfights.com NHL bouts)

Analysis: So here we have a classic “you blast my guy, I have to respond” fight between Scott Hartnell and Troy Brouwer. I believe this is one of the reasons why fighting will never truly leave the game. It’s just such an “emotional” thing and so based on momentum that a huge physical play like Brouwer’s hit on Erik Gustafsson can’t go unanswered. Scott Hartnell realizes this, and is off after Brouwer, because “soft” is about the worst thing you can call a hockey team.

These look to be two pretty evenly matched, and it’s a pretty decent bout, albeit a quick one. They both nail pretty good shots, as Hartnell lands a big one early, and Brouwer gets one as Hartnell goes down in the wrestling match. Have to give the edge to Hartnell, but only slightly, just because he seems to “control” the fight before he goes down (even if that is splitting hairs).

Verdict: Hartnell by a half a dreadlock strand
