Calling all Policy Wonk Caps Fans

Hockey fans all over this politically-minded city must be geeking out right now. Members of Congress, including Senator John Kerry (D-MA), are sporting hockey ties today in honor of the inaugural Hockey Fights Cancer Day on the Hill. Also wearing the tie? Members of the Congressional Hockey Caucus, which is a real thing, with a real Facebook page, which you should “Like” right now.

And if that’s not enough to get you policy wonks drooling, Illinois Rep. Mike Quigley is going to deliver a one-minute speech on the floor of the House of Representatives today in honor of this very special day.

But back to the tie. Since we here at Capitals Outsider seem determined to help you find the perfect hockey-themed gift for every occasion, I highly recommend that you check out this little number. Hey press release, tell us what we have here:

“The lavender tie is custom woven, 100% silk with a hockey player logo throughout. The tie, manufactured by Vineyard Vines, also features a custom-woven Hockey Fights Cancer label.
NHL coaches, broadcasters and team personnel also will wear the commemorative tie during games in October.”

So basically, it’s the only tie you’re going to find that is owned by all of those folks and some of your favorite (or least favorite, I’m not being political here) Members of Congress.  The tie, along with other Hockey Fights Cancer merchandise, is available at shop.nhl.com. And yes, it costs $74.99. I realize that’s more than you normally spend on your lavender ties, but a portion of proceeds benefit Hockey Fights Cancer, so think about it. For yourself, or the preppy hockey fan policy wonk cancer awareness advocate in your life.
