New Ovie Sculpture: What Is McFarlane Thinking?

Cheap sculpture king Todd McFarlane is at it again, producing yet another Alex Ovechkin statue in the upcoming NHL Canadian Tire Series 2 (whatever that means), making the Great 8 look dumber than ever.

This version, like others, does not have a tinted face shield. It ignores his recent sponsorship with Gillette by including his scruffy-looking facial hair. And, it has him wearing his CCM gear instead of his new Bauer gear (which likely happened because the prototypes, and perhaps the entire line, were put out before that announcement… but still, we want to get picky). They could’ve put him in the Winter Classic jersey, but NO, it’s the good ole’ away one.

But wait. There is one thing that sets this apart from the other versions. Schwag collectors, rejoice. This one, called Alex Ovechkin 4 and due in October, has a Capitals puck with his name on it!

Mr. McFarlane, please stop phoning in your Ovechkin sculptures.

(At least he didn’t add the belly fat Ovie was photographed as having this past summer)

Also available in this ‘Canadian Tire Series 2’ is Jonathan Toews, Tim Horton, Brian Gionta, Mario Lemieux and Daniel Sedin. See more at spawn.com.
