Development Camp Day 4: Scrimmage

Early Thursday morning, the Caps prospects gathered for the second scrimmage in less than 24 hours. However, unlike the first game, this second one was won, in a shootout, by Group A (white) 4-3.

Travis Boyd, who had two goals, and Reid Edmondson were the goal scorers for Group B. Danick Paquette, David Citviarese and Garrett Mitchell all scored for Group A in regulation. Mitchell had the only goal in the shootout, thus winning the game.

Once again, there was some rough play and a couple injuries. Chase Grant left the game early for Group A, Adam Mitchell got clipped up high but returned to the game, and Garrett Mitchell had a hard collision late in the game. Garrett didn’t leave the ice, but merely shook off the injury and stayed on for the next faceoff.

This game between the two groups also had its fair share of fights. The first matchup was between Garrett and Scott Wietecha. While Wietecha’s size gave him much of an advantage, an advantage that helped him flip Garrett in the middle of the fight, Garrett refused to give up and the two were separated by a ref, resulting in a draw.

The second fight was between Paquette and Wietecha. This was much more of a fight than a wrestling match with fists flying. Paquette distributed most of the blows, including a couple that caused a gash in Wietecha’s head and swelling of his eye. After the scrimmage, Paquette told the media that he was a Matt Cooke type of player.

The final scrimmage between the two groups is on Saturday as a part of Fan Fest.
