Early Reviews: The Ovechkin Project Sucks

Damien Cox’s The Ovechkin Project: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Hockey’s Most Dangerous Player hit the shelves recently, and reviews so far are unanimously negative.

As of Sunday, Amazon.com lists three reviews of the book, all of which give it one star (out of five), with titles such as “The author might be jealous of Ovechkin” and “This book’s title should read ‘Damian Cox Throws Ovechkin Under the Bus.'”

Ted Leonsis himself has dismissed this book. But the best written review so far is by Joe Pelletier of hockeybookreviews.com. He writes, “It is written with a negative theme, as if the authors’ mandated their vision right from the outset. I heard one of the authors (Joyce) try to defend their approach as painting him as tragic figure. I don’t buy it. The book reads as if the authors go out of their way create an image of a spoiled prima donna more interested in the spotlight than winning.”
