Caps, Laughlin Raise Money for Fire Department and Best Buddies

He could’ve just stayed home and watched the game, or attended a viewing party with rich folks in fancy suits and monocles, but instead Comcast SportsNet’s Caps color analyst Craig Laughlin hung out with Caps fans at the Green Turtle in Burtonsville on Tuesday, helping to raise money for charity.

An auction was held for a variety of items donated by the Caps, with the proceeds going to the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department and Best Buddies of Paint Branch High School.

“Best Buddies is very dear to the heart of Barry Trotz, and it’s been a big push in the community,” Laughlin said. “So when I heard it was Best Buddies and the fire department, they’re unsung heroes, the people that work, not only with the children but in the community… it’s a so-called no-brainer to be involved in this.”

Coach Trotz and his son, Nolan, have been involved with Best Buddies since their days in Nashville (see Alex Prewitt’s article for more on this).

The grand prize auctioned is a night out with Laughlin and his partner, Comcast SportsNet’s Joe Beninati. This experience includes wining and dining with them, and a trip to their broadcast booth.

“Joe. B is going to take most of the ribbing because any time he’s with me, he does,” Laughlin said. “The fans will get an inside look talking to us and finding out the inner workings of the Caps and Comcast. Joe B. is a wine aficionado, and he will supply the wine for us. It’s going to be a great time, hopefully this summer.”

The fire department is raising funds for a new ladder truck. See their site to donate.
