Congrats, John Carlson, on an Awesome Consecutive Games Streak

(Caps Outsider)

Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson sat out with an injury Monday, the first game he missed in the past 412 regular season games, since April of 2010. He came just ten short of matching Bobby Carpenter’s Caps record.

We here at Caps Outsider would like to give a major stick tap to Carlson for his effort, and hopes he gets back on the ice soon and plays another five-plus seasons worth of consecutive games.

Now, the pressure is on Karl Alzner, who is now one game behind Carlson’s record. If all goes well, he’ll pass Carpenter in January in Anaheim.

Carlson and Alzner used to joke about the streak with each other. “I don’t even know the exact number, but all I know is that I’m two behind [John Carlson],” Alzner said last year. “I don’t care about the overall record, I’m just trying to catch him.”

We’re rooting for you, Alzner, and we bet even Carlson is, too!

Alzner, Carlson and a piggy bank.
