Canine Calendar Photo Shoot (or Who Can Resist a Tough Hockey Player with a Puppy) :)

The Caps were at it again this year as they posed with some adoptable, canine cuties Tuesday for the 2016 Caps Canine Calendar. The photo shoot to benefit Homeward Trails Animal Rescue was held at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, VA. Homeward Trails rescues homeless dogs and cats from shelters where animal overpopulation is high and adoption is low.  This can result in needless euthanasia of many adoptable pets.  They also work with owners who can no longer keep their animals to find them acceptable new homes. In addition to their rescue efforts, Homeward Trails works to promote legislation that will make the world a better place for animals.

Many of the Caps gave their time to pose with the playful pups. Karl Alzner, Jay Beagle, John Carlson, Matt Niskanen, Brooks Orpik, T.J. Oshie, Justin Peters and Justin Williams posed with their own dogs. Nicklas Backstrom, Andre Burakovsky, Braden Holtby, Marcus Johansson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Michael Latta, Dmitry Orlov, Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson posed with adoptable shelter dogs.

Last year, the calendar was shot in a tranquil, outdoor setting by photographer Courtney Green, wife of ex-Capitals defenseman Mike Green. Over $35,000 was donated to Homeward Trails through the sale of the 2015 Capitals Canine Calendar.  Photographer Virgil Ocampo and his team donated their time to shoot the calendar this year.

According to MSE, a limited number of 2016 Caps Canine Calendars will be available for $20 beginning Monday, Nov. 23, when the Capitals host the Edmonton Oilers. The calendar will be available for purchase at the Monumental Sports and Entertainment Foundation table located at section 104 on the main concourse during home games, at the team stores at Verizon Center and Kettler Capitals Iceplex and online at WashingtonCaps.com and MonumentalFoundation.org.
