With the Caps in the playoffs for the first time in two years, fans have a big reason to celebrate.  The fine folks at Monumental Sports and Entertainment have put together some really fun activities to kickoff the postseason.  Sponsored by Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace manufacturer of commercial jetliners and defense, space and security systems, Caps’ fans will be able to Rock the Red in style.  During the quarterfinal series against the New York Islanders, fans are invited to participate in the following events to support the team:

Red Ride of Fame Bus – Two hours prior to the puck drop in each home game fans can take a ride on the Red Ride of Fame Bus.  The bus will take fans around Chinatown to Rock the Red and cheer on the Caps. Imagine sitting high atop the bus sharing your enthusiasm for the Caps as you ride through the historic streets of Washington, DC!

Beard-a-Thon – A playoff tradition around the NHL, the Beard-a-Thon raises money for charity.  If you don’t want to grow a playoff beard, you can always participate by making a donation in support of a Caps player growing a beard.  Alex Ovechkin, Nick Backstrom and Mike Green are among the many players participating this year.  Promoted by radio station 106.7 The Fan, the money will be donated to the American Special Hockey Association for every day that a fan or player maintains his beard.

Caps Viewing Parties – We know that there will be tons of Caps viewing parties in and around Washington, DC, but their only a few official Washington Capitals viewing parties.  On Sunday, April 19 at 11:00 a.m. the Hard Rock Café, 999 E. St. NW, will host a viewing party for Game 3. Then, on April 21 for Game 4, Budweiser is presenting a party at the Verizon Center.  The doors on F Street will open at 6:00 p.m. for the festivities.  Each event features the Caps’ mascot, Slapshot, the Red Rockers and loads of prizes and giveaways.

School Pep Rallies – The Caps will host pep rallies at local schools throughout the playoffs.  Principals and teachers are encouraged to have their students create original ways to show their team spirit.  Posters, videos, songs, etc. can be submitted at www.washcaps.com/peprally.  The winners will receive a visit from Slapshot leading a cool pep rally!

What about the Games? – Games 1, 2 and 4 will be broadcast exclusively on Comcast SportsNet locally.  Game 3 will be televised nationally on NBC.  You can also tune in to hear the game on 106.7 FM The Fan (CBS Radio) or 1500 AM (Hubbard Radio).  Games 5,6 and 7, if necessary, will be announced later.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, it’s time to Rock the Red.  Don’t forget to visit capitals.nhl.com  for more info regarding these events and for the latest about the Caps!
