#CapsThisWeek – All Star Game and Vacations

It was a busy week for the Capitals…well, actually, no it wasn’t. It was busy for one Capital, and the rest kind of just relaxed. We are going to be taking a look at how the Caps’ week unfolded, through social media. And, surprisingly for January, it involves a lot of beaches.

Alex Ovechkin represented the Capitals in the all star game, and immediately stole the show. At the draft, Alex Ovechkin, really, really, really wanted a car, and let everyone know through his Instagram photos and videos. He had photos of himself pleading for the car with Pierre McGuire, selfies with St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko, and for some reason had Minnesota defenseman Ryan Suter explain to us how exactly to….sit in in a car? His possibly (ok, fine, probably) alcohol-infused videos were hilarious, and his pleas for a car became desperate. No one could quite figure out why Ovechkin wanted a car so bad, but it ended up being a heart-warming gift for Ann Schaab and her Ice Dogs.

While Ovechkin was taking in his all star experience with 101.4 mile per hour shots and clubbing, Tom Wilson and Michael Latta spent some time together poolside, Marcus Johansson enjoyed a beach vacation. John Erskine took his family on a winter beach trip, and Mike Green visited New Orleans.

Some Caps also caught up with friends and former teammates. Latta spent some time with Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi, and Evgeny Kuznetsov hung out with former Cap and current Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov.

After spending some time in the sun, the team headed back to their day jobs, and the first stop was in Columbus, where they ultimately fell to the Blue Jackets 4-3. But they headed right back on the right track with a 4-0 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
