On a night when the Capitals introduced their trade-deadline acquisition and vaulted into 1st place in the Southeast Division by virtue of a shootout, we choose to focus our attention elsewhere. Tonight was the Capitals’ annual Salute to the Military Night at Verizon Center, a special evening dedicated to honoring the men and women who have served the country in the armed forces.

Complimentary tickets were provided to military personnel and their dependents for the game, and a military presence could be felt throughout the arena and the evening. Military recruiting booths were located on the concourse, and Courage Caps continued to be for sale. The first intermission featured mites from the Navy Youth Hockey Association, and the second intermission featured a shootout by the USA Warriors Sled Hockey Team.

The Capitals paid tribute to the military during pre-game warm-ups by wearing camouflage jerseys. Those jerseys were then signed and auctioned off during the game to support Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to anyone who has suffered the loss of a military loved one.
