The Kiss Seen Around the World

Tonight, AHL call-up Andrew Gordon scored his first NHL goal, opening the scoring of the Capitals’ 5-1 win over the New Jersey Devils.  It came off a great feed from rookie center Marcus Johansson.  There was the normal exuberant celebration, but Gordon felt a higher level of gratitude for his pivot, so he added something you don’t see in hockey very often: A kiss on the cheek. Video below.

Here is the goal. Not a bad way to show your coach you want an extended stay with the big club.

…and the celebratory kiss follows after the jump.

“I didn’t figure it’d be on TV.” Gordon explaines, “I just wanted to show my appreciation.”

After a night where the 2010 Calder Cup team drove the Caps to a win, Gordon can celebrate anyway he wants. He may have to keep up the kissing if it translates into the effort and results we saw tonight.

As he said on Twitter, “What a day. I don’t want to go to sleep, cause when I wake up I have to put it all behind me and get to work again. Today is a good day :)”

I think Caps Nation would agree.
