Capitals Top Stars for Second Win of the Season

Coming off a huge victory over the Golden Knights, the Capitals hosted another undefeated Western Conference foe in the Dallas Stars on Thursday. Nevertheless, Washington took care of business with a 3-2 victory to improve to 2-1 on the season.

This was the Capitals’ first home win against Dallas since March 20, 2018, which was the season they went on to win the Stanley Cup.

While the Stars led 1-0 early on, all three Washington goals came in the second period, as Tom Wilson, Dylan Strome, and Taylor Raddysh all put the puck in the net.

Wilson has now scored three goals in three games to start the season. This marks Wilson’s first goal streak of three or more games since April 8-13, 2023 (four goals in four games).

Strome recorded his second tally of the season to give the Capitals a 2-1 lead, while John Carlson recorded the primary assist, extending his season-opening point streak to three games (1g-3a-4p).

Raddysh scored his first goal for Washington at the 17:19 mark of the middle frame which turned out to be the eventual game-winner.

Charlie Lindgren got the start in net and stopped 22 of 24 shots, while Martin Fehervary blocked five shots on defense, including two crucial shots in the final 90 seconds.

However, the Capitals weren’t exactly perfect as they went 0-for-5 on the power play. In the opening period, Washington had the man advantage but gave up a shorthanded breakaway goal from Dallas’ Colin Blackwell.

The Caps also gave up a lucky bounce from Jason Robertson of the Stars in the second period which tied the game up at 2-2.

Nevertheless, Washington outshot Dallas 26-24 and finished with 27 hits compared to the visitors’ nine.
