Alzner Ties Carpenter for Caps Iron Man Streak
(Caps Outsider)
Caps defenseman Karl Alzner stepped on the ice for his 422 consecutive regular season game Tuesday, which ties Bobby Carpenter for the longest streak for a Washington Capitals player.
He’ll almost certainly break the record on Friday vs. Anaheim, against former coach Bruce Boudreau.
Just a few weeks ago, teammate John Carlson‘s own streak, which was two better than Alzner’s, came to an unfortunate end. At one point, Alzner and Carlson were joking about the record (we THINK they were joking). Alzner told Caps Outsider back in 2014: “I don’t even know the exact number, but all I know is that I’m two behind [John Carlson]. I don’t care about the overall record, I’m just trying to catch him.”
At the time, Alzner’s wife was due to give birth, which she did while the team had some off days.
Congratulations Alzner. One more to go!
(STAY CLEAR OF JUSTIN WILLIAMS!)
Here’s one of our favorite Alzner moments:
