Capitals Re-sign Martin Fehervary

The Caps re-signed defenseman Martin Fehervary on Tuesday to a three-year contract extension. He’ll be making $2.675 million, a hefty raise for the young player who played 67 games last season and averaged 20 minutes of ice time.

The 23-year-old, who sometimes looks 12 depending on the angle, has been a steady presence for the Caps and will likely solidify a spot on the blue line for the remainder of his bridge contract.

While he won’t be putting up many points, he has proven himself to be a shot-blocker and a heavy hitter.

Fehervary, who made his NHL debut at age 19 on Oct. 2, 2019 at St. Louis, has recorded 34 points (14g, 20a) in 152 career games with Washington. The Capitals selected Fehervary in the second round (46th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.

The Caps also re-signed Riley Sutter, who just won a Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears recently.
