Backstrom, Holtby and Wilson Volunteer at D.C. School

(Caps Outsider)

Nicklas Backstrom, Braden Holtby and Tom Wilson went to Hendley Elementary School in D.C. on Friday to help renovate the gym with Heart of America through its So Kids Can program.

This past season, the players and Elliot Segal of The Elliot in the Morning Show donated $50 per Caps win, helping to raise more than $60,000.

They even did more previously for this school. Back in November, they brought 75 laptops and 45 tablets donated by the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation, the charitable arm of the Washington Capitals.

So Kids Can was created in 2008 by former Cap Mike Green and Segal to benefit youth-focused, nonprofit organizations. Other Caps joined over the years, including Brooks Laich and Karl Alzner.
