Caps Hosting Hockey is for Everyone Month Events

There will be a Pride Tape Stick and Puck auction this month (Caps Outsider)

February will be jam-packed with awesome activities for the Caps and their fans as they celebrate Hockey is for Everyone and Black History Month. For the past 21 years, the NHL has designated February as Hockey is for Everyone month to recognize grassroots hockey and the game’s growing diversity. This unique program teaches children essential life skills and the core values of hockey: Commitment, perseverance and teamwork. Although children are the main focus, the initiative also supports hockey programs that assist disabled military personnel and other adults with special needs.

With continued support of Hockey is for Everyone and in honor of Black History Month, the Caps are offering the following events and opportunities in February:

Feb. 5 Hockey is For Everyone Night │Capital One Arena
The Capitals vs. Vancouver Canucks game marks the team’s Hockey is For Everyone Night presented by Etihad, with various tributes to hockey communities throughout the evening.

Feb. 5-11 Pride Tape Stick and Puck Auction
Led by goaltender Braden Holtby, select players will sign sticks wrapped in rainbow-color ‘Pride Tape’ and rainbow Caps pucks for auction. (Holtby, and his wife Brandi, are staunch supporters of the LGBTQ community.) All proceeds will benefit the HRC Foundation’s Youth Well-Being Project to promote safety, inclusion and well-being for LGBTQ youth in Washington, D.C.

Feb. 6 Hockey Day on the Hill │Washington, D.C.
The National Hockey League and the bipartisan Congressional Hockey Caucus will host a congressional briefing to discuss how hockey supports increased interest in and access to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) learning that fuels career exploration among fifth- through eighth-grade students.

Feb. 6 Congressional Hockey Challenge │Capital One Arena
The Congressional Hockey Challenge will be played at Capital One Arena. In its 11th year, a charity hockey game pitting Lawmakers, Administration officials and Congressional staff against Lobbyists from a variety of industries and interests, will continue to benefit the Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club, USA Warriors Hockey, the Capitol Beltway Warriors and other hockey-related charities.

Feb. 7 Military Night │Capital One Arena
The Capitals vs. Colorado Avalanche game will mark the organization’s annual Military Night and will honor service members, with tributes throughout the game as well as an auction on Handbid.hosted by MS&E Foundation. One hundred percent of the auction proceeds will benefit United Heroes League and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS).

Feb. 15-17 USA Warriors Standing Tournament │MedStar Capitals Iceplex
The Caps will partner with the USA Warriors to host the Tampa Warriors, Rochester Warriors and Pittsburgh Warthogs for a tournament at Medstar Capitals Iceplex in partnership with LiUNA.

Feb. 25-27 NHL Presents the American Legacy Black Hockey History Tour │Washington, D.C.
The Caps will host the American Legacy Black Hockey History Tour presented by the NHL – a traveling museum featuring the history of black hockey including players. Visit NHL.com/BlackHockeyHistory for more information.

Feb. 26 Black History Night │Capital One Arena
The Capitals vs. Ottawa Senators game marks the organization’s black history theme night. Throughout the evening, the Caps will highlight the countless contributions made to both the sport of hockey and the Capitals organization by African-Americans.

Feb. 2 Fort Dupont Rink Partner Visit Driven by AAA* │MedStar Capitals Iceplex
Capitals players Madison Bowey, Brooks Orpik, Devante Smith-Pelly and Chandler Stephenson will host the Fort Dupont Cannons at MedStar Capitals Iceplex for an Official Rink Partner visit driven by AAA.

Feb. 4 United Arab Emirates Women’s National Hockey Team Workshop with American Special Hockey Association* │MedStar Capitals Iceplex (In conjunction with the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates and Etihad Airways, the Caps will host the United Arab Emirates Women’s National Hockey Team Feb. 2-6.)

Feb. 4 Hockey ’n Heels* │MedStar Capitals Iceplex
The Caps will host its annual Hockey ’n Heels event, offered by Scarlet Caps, will feature instructional sessions and on-ice demonstrations targeted towards the Capitals’ female audience.

Feb. 8 Dreams for Kids Skate* │MedStar Capitals Iceplex
For the past 9 years, the Capitals and children’s charity Dreams for Kids will host an Extreme Recess Hockey Clinic at MedStar Capitals Iceplex for children with physical and developmental disabilities. Washington Capitals players Travis Boyd, Brett Connolly, Nic Dowd and Lars Eller will attend.

Feb. 11 EverFi Future Goals Field Trip │Medstar Capitals Iceplex
The Capitals will host 200 students from Everfi’s Future Goals program on Feb. 11. The Future Goals program focuses on STEM in sports and uses the sport of hockey to reinforce key concepts in science and math.

Feb. 12-15 Hockey Clinics
The Caps will visit schools in Baltimore, Md. (12th) and Washington D.C. (14th-15th), to host hockey clinics. Capitals Community Hockey Staff will visit the schools and conduct a clinic for the students as part of the Caps Hockey School Curriculum.

As you can see, February looks like a great month to come to the arena in support of Hockey is for Everyone, Black History Month, a host of very worthy causes and, as always, to cheer on our Stanley Cup Champs.
