Power Play Lifts Bears Over Sound Tigers, 6-2

The Hershey Bears returned to Giant Center for their first game back since the holiday break. Coming off an overtime loss Wednesday in Syracuse, the Bears looked to take down the Sound Tigers at home Friday.

Before the game got underway, Bears VP of Hockey Operations Bryan Helmer presented Vitek Vanecek with his CCM/AHL Player of the Week Award.

In his first full AHL season, Vanecek sports an 8-3-3 record with three shutouts on the season.

Chris Bourque was also honored during the game for his achieving yet another milestone. Bourque earned his 500th point with Hershey Wednesday night assiting on a Christian Thomas goal in the second period.

Hershey’s power play netted four goals in their 6-2 win over Bridgeport Friday. Liam O’Brien, Chandler Stephenson and Stanislav Galiev had excellent games. O’Brien had three point night (2 goals both PP, 1 assist) which earned him first star honors. Galiev and Stephenson both had a goal and an assist to add to the Bears point total for the night. Brad Malone and Christian Thomas also added tallies for the Chocolate and White. Joe Cannata stopped 19 of 21 shots giving him his 9th win of the season.

Hershey will look to close out 2016 with another win Saturday night when they meet Providence Bruins for the first time this season.
