Mel’s Rink Now at the JCC in Rockville

(via Marc Kohn)

Back in January, there was a controversy over Mel’s Rink, which was a backyard rink built by Marc Kohn to honor the memory of his stepdaughter.  Kohn agreed to work with Montgomery County to move the rink to an area that would not violate zoning rules.

The rink is now at the Bender JCC of Greater Washington off of Montrose Road in Rockville, MD. The synthetic ice rink is up and ready. There will be a “Hockey Day In Rockville” open house at the JCC on December 11. The open house will be free and open to the public.

Kohn looks to continue to do what he did when Mel’s Rink was in his backyard. Teaching kids and adults how to skate and play the great game of hockey. In addition, he wants to add a 3-on-3 league for kids and adults. Kohn plans to call it the “Bender JCC ‘Club de Hockey’ League.”
