The Washington Capitals hosted the final Caps Kids Day of the season Sunday afternoon at Verizon Center. In addition to the swarms of mini Ovechkins, Backstroms and Holtbys running around the concourse, this year it was great to see many excited mini-Caps representing newer players wearing Oshie, Wilson and Kuznetsov jerseys.  Caps Kids Club members were eligible to receive a ticket at a reduced price for the matinee.   The Kids Day festivities took place prior to the start of the Capitals versus Flyers game on the 4th level concourse of Verizon Center.  The doors opened early for DeLuxe Kids Club Members only.  Members got to participate in a variety of games and activities such as mini hockey, mascot games, caricature artists and player autographs.  Caps center Jay Beagle and former Cap Peter Bondra (who was celebrating his birthday!) were on hand to meet and greet the enthusiastic kids.

Among the Deluxe Kid's Club members were triplets Madeleine, Mason, and Abigail. They really enjoyed the Kid's Day activities and couldn't wait for the game to begin.

“We came to see the Caps game and get autographs,” said Madeleine.

“I check the Caps’ stats every day before I go to school,” added her brother Mason.  “Ovechkin is my favorite player.”

The Caps Kids Club was developed to show young Caps fans that they’re important, too, and not only adults can be a part of the Washington Capitals experience. There are two ways to participate. For $20, parents can register their kids for the Hat Trick Pro Package Deluxe Membership. The 2015-16 deluxe package features Caps forward Tom Wilson. It includes all kinds of goodies from the awesome Tom Wilson bobblehead and static cling to skating parties and 3 free ice skating sessions at participating ice rinks. Option two is the Slapshot Scout Free Membership which includes a monthly newsletter and monthly raffles. Both options make kids eligible to receive a game ticket at a reduced price.

It was a great afternoon for the kids and, as an added bonus, they got to see the Caps versus the Flyers. The Caps next game is Tuesday, Feb. 9 when they take on the Predators in Nashville.

Happy birthday Peter Bondra!
