Relief and exuberance swept over the crowd at the Verizon Center today as the Caps beat the Buffalo Sabres, 3-2. Fans cheered as the buzzer sounded, signaling the end of the afternoon game, securing the team’s first win this season.

“We wanted to play well for us and the fans,” said a smiling Troy Brouwer, basking in the team’s victory. “The power play got going. We moved it around pretty well and got some good looks.”

“We stayed out of the 5 on 3 situation and that really helped us today,” Joel Ward said.

“It was good finally,” said a cautiously optimistic Adam Oates. “At the beginning of the game we were a little flat, but most of the time pretty good. We had a few breakdowns, but all in all we held together pretty good.”

With the Caps first taste of success, they move on to play the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, January 29th in Ottawa.
