Silent (Auction) Night at Verizon Center

If you’re like me, and haven’t finished your Christmas shopping yet, the concourse at Verizon Center provided ample opportunity for some unique gift buying this evening. There were no fewer than three silent auctions going on during the game tonight.

First up is Happy Hockey Holiday Silent Auction sponsored by the Washington Capitals and the team’s Wives Club. The Caps’ Better Halves staffed a table and allowed you to bid on gift baskets that contain some of the players’ favorite things, autographed items and jerseys. All money raised from this auction will benefit Washington Capitals Charities.

Second we found the Capitals Fan Club with a very unique Silent Auction, consisting of Player Autographed Christmas Balls. They even had some decorated by Nicklas Backstrom and Marcus Johansson, the latter of which is apparently quite the artist. These items were sold to benefit Mike Green’s ‘So Kids Can’ Charity, and we thank them for allowing us to photograph their Balls.

… and lastly on Mike Knuuuuuble knight, we found a silent auction full of #22 jerseys. All Capitals players wore a commemorative “Knuble” jersey during the pregame warm-up, featuring number “22” on the back. These MeiGray authenticated jerseys were auctioned off during the game at the MeiGray auction table on the concourse outside of section 109. Honestly, I’m not sure what the proceeds benefited for this auction, but hopefully it wasn’t just MeiGray.
