Behind the Scenes on Semin

alex_seminThe big news of the night, aside from the Capitals regaining first place in the league with a 4-1 walloping of the New Jersey Devils, was Alexander Semin coming to terms with the team to stay an extra year. Semin even came out to ‘talk’ to reporters. That means overtime work for Russian reporter Dmitry Chesnokov, who has the microphones shoved into his face as he translates Semin’s answers.

When asked to comment on Semin’s extension, Coach Boudreau’s first response was: “It’s my first time hearing about it.”

The cool-as-a-cucumber general manager George McPhee came out to speak with reporters about Semin. Why only one year? “It’s what the player preferred.”

The funniest thing that happened all night was when rookie goaltender Michal Neuvirth, who won his third straight start, laughed about the fact that he came within one fluke goal of shutting out future Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur. “HAHAHAHAHA,” he said in a high-pitched voice.

I kid you not, it was HAHAHAHAHA in a high-pitched voice.
