Almost every season since 1984, the Caps Fan Club tallies the ballots of fans who vote on their favorite player. The winner receives the Yvon Labre award, named after the former Caps captain. The winner gets his name engraved on the trophy and receives a small trophy of his own, which is presented by the Caps Fan Club.

This year, the winner is T.J. Oshie, who will likely get eight more cracks at this.

The trophy is displayed at the Caps Fan Club table, but only during the playoffs. Voting typically starts in February. The award wasn’t given out during the lockout-shortened season in 1994-95 and during the 2004-05 lockout.
