Number 4: Always The Hardest One To Get

Unleash the Chorney? (Caps Outsider)

The Caps are up 3-0 in their best of 7 series for the first time in franchise history. However, the Caps suffered a major loss on the blue line for at least one game.

Brooks Orpik did not return to game 3 and has been officially ruled out for game 4 and is considered “day to day.” What does that mean for the defender combinations?

In addition to Orpik not being available for game 4, goaltender Braden Holtby left practice early after a collision with a teammate. Coach Barry Trotz said “I don’t anticipate Braden not playing.”

That is vague, but you have to remember it is the playoffs. I would also like to remind Caps fans that Philipp Grubauer came in and won game 2 against the Islanders in the first round last year to tie that series at 1. I have complete faith in Grubauer, but I also hope he is not needed. Trotz also said he has no intention of recalling a goaltender.

The Caps’ special teams have been amazing this series. They are perfect on the penalty kill and are 47% on the power play. The Caps have also been getting the depth they need. John Carlson has 6 points and Jay Beagle has two goals through the first three games.

The Flyers will give the Caps everything they have. Expect them to try and goat the Capitals into bad penalties. If the Caps can stay disciplined, and have a solid first period, it might be time to break out the brooms.
