Bears Week 5 Recap: On the Right Path

The Hershey Bears began their three-game week with an 11 a.m. tilt Wednesday in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In front of mostly elementary school age children, the Bears battled for a 4-2 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Paul Carey scored the first Bears goal to equalize in the first period then the third goal to reclaim the lead in the third. Nathan Walker added the fourth goal when Chris Gibson inadvertently passed him the puck while trying to clear the zone. Justin Peters made 39 saves en route to his third win with the Chocolate and White.

Dan Ellis took care of the net Friday night, making 20 saves and helping the Bears to a 4-2 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Stan Galiev, back with the Bears as a conditioning stint, scored the equalizer midway through the first and Walker tallied late to give Hershey a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Carter Camper scored just over a minute into the third for a 3-1 edge, but Tyrell Goulbourne cut the lead to one three minutes later. Chris Bourque scored the empty-netter to finish the score sheet.

Galiev scored twice and Sean Collins also scored to give the Bears a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes against the St. John’s IceCaps. St. John’s awoke in the second, peppering Peters with 15 shots, two for goals. Daniel Carr scored the equalizing goal and overtime saw Hershey get outshot 4-to-1. Galiev answered Charles Hudson‘s second round tally to force extra rounds, but Gabriel Dumont completed the comeback for the visitors on a near-stop move at the top of the crease.

After starting the week with a Friday away rivalry matchup against W-B/Scranton, the Bears return home to the GIANT Center for contests against Bridgeport Sound and Rochester. The first two games start at 7:00 p.m. and the Rochester game begins at 5:00 p.m.
