The Hershey Bears have been quite the donation machines these past few months, and only one day after wrapping up what was a very successful Movember, they were back at it again with their annual Teddy Bear toss. For those who don’t know how this works, everybody brings teddy bears to the Hershey Bears game, then wait until their home team net’s their first goal of the night and celebrate by tossing the teddy bears onto the ice. This year, Bears forward Matt Watkins was the first to score for the Bears at 4:52 in the second period, and the teddy bear chaos ensued. At a final count of 12,890 teddy bears, every single one will be donated to charity. Although the night didn’t end as planned, as the Bears went on to lose to the Providence Bruins, 3-2, in a shootout, the Bears organization was able to bring together the best fans in the AHL to donate teddy bears of all sizes to charity which to them is a win in itself.
