Ten Things Caps Fans Yell

by Random

A few bonus ones…

Lately, HOLTBY has made the rounds, and occasionally other goaltender names. Also, for Ovechkin: OVIE and/or MVP! My all-time favorite? HEXTALL!

Many thanks to @nazarcruce for the design work on this. Also thanks to Clydeorama for the photo of Goat.

Can we PLEASE stop the following chants. 1. Who cares? Obviously we all care, they just scored against us. It is better than the "do better" chant though. 2. Whoop whoop. I'm all for it for certain people. But Gonchar as your example?! He was a great Cap. Doing it for people like Jagr when he came back was great. But not for Gonch or other guys who played well here and left of good terms, come on people. 3. All your fault. To me this is basically saying we can't score if the goalie doesn't make a mistake. I think our guys are talented enough that they can beat the best netminders.

My fellow STH in my row and I refer to these specific chants as microphone moments. As in we wish we had a microphone to explain how dumb it sounds. When opposing fans ask what the crowd is saying, I tell them and apoligize for how lame it is lol.

This is just my opinion but hopefully I have swayed some of you. LETS GO CAPS!!!!

#7 is more about trying to get into the goalie's head more than anything I think. I don't regularly say it but I'd say that's it's purpose rather than saying it literally was all his fault. Just like taunting a goalie by slowly cheering his name a la "Caaaaaaaammmmmmp - bbbbeeeeelllllll".

Prob is the fans at the phone booth like to taunt EVERY goalie even after one goal. Unless they can't pronounce his name lol. We gotta step it up as hockey fans around these parts.

The "Oh" was an Orioles thing, before the Nats came to town. You'd hear it at any DC or Baltimore area sports event where the Anthem was played. Repurposed now maybe, but only in Verizon Center. When you hear the "Oh" at Landover or RFK, I can guarantee it's not about Ovechkin.

The rest, I dunno... can't we just stick with good old #2 and #3? I mean, fans were whooping Joe Corvo the other day. Joe Corvo. He's not exactly Joe Corvo.

"Oh" well

Great point about Corvo. He's a Hurricane he wasn't here long at all. To give him the whoop whoop is stupid.

"Who Cares" is referring to the announcement made by Wes, not the actual goal. It's like saying, "I don't care what specific opposing player scored that goal. We've moved on already. Who cares?!"

Obviously, EVERYONE cares that we let one in.

That makes a little more sense.

I agree with the ones for cheering on the Caps, but the ones going against the other teams just seem childish to me. For example, #4. Um, I do in fact care when the other team scores because it very likely could affect the outcome of the game, so it just never made any sense to me. #7 seems ridiculous to me as well. It takes away from you recognizing the hard work of the Caps and claims that the reason for the goal is because of a screw up by the goaltender? I'd much rather cheer for my team making a good play.
