A Tribute to Tarik el-Bashir

AUTHOR: | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

As many Capitals fans already know, The Washington Post’s Capitals writer, Tarik el-Bashir, will no longer be covering the Capitals after five seasons on the job. We here at Capitals Outsider will now reveal the ugly truth about how he worked behind the scenes to create the high quality content that Washington devoured during the team’s rise to prominence. Tarik got the best seat in the press box during home games. Little did he know that all Washington Post Capitals beat writers get that seat, and it had nothing to do with the job he did during the Islanders’ collapse. [...]

What Is the Best Moment in Capitals’ History?

AUTHOR: | IN: News | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Washington Capitals fans have more to be upset about in their history than they have to celebrate. Capitals Outsider readers picked the 2010 playoffs to be the worst moment in Capitals’ history in last week’s poll, with Esa Tikkanen’s missed shot in the 1998 Finals coming in a distant second. But let’s forget about those bad moments for a minute and vote on the best moment in Capitals’ history. This past year, a DVD came out of what they call Washington’s ten greatest games in franchise history. We’ll include most of those, plus other noteworthy moments, and you can vote [...]

What Is the Worst Moment in Capitals’ History?

AUTHOR: | IN: News | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

Capitals fans are a long-suffering bunch. We’ve celebrated very little and suffered many heartbreaks. Unfortunately, highlighting the Capitals best moments is resorting to getting our jollies over Alex Ovechkin’s back-to-back MVPs or some division championships. Instead, let’s depress ourselves and reflect on the darkest times in Washington’s history.

Former Eleanor Roosevelt Teacher to Be Honored in Laurel Tournament

AUTHOR: | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

Following the death of art teacher, mentor and friend, Andrea “Froggy” Henderson, Eleanor Roosevelt High School alumni have become reacquainted in efforts to leap towards a cure for cancer, forming the Andrea Henderson Memorial Fund. Henderson, who lost her short battle to breast cancer on April 12, 2010, was the ERHS Ice Raiders hockey team sponsor from its inaugural season in 1998 through 2008. She was not only the high school art teacher and hockey team sponsor, but a second mother, inspiration, and shoulder to lean on to many. In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Martin Lawrence, ERHS class [...]

80s and 90s Capitals Rookie Cards

AUTHOR: | IN: Retro Stuff | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The late 80s and early 90s was a boom time for the sports card industry. When Score got exclusive rights to produce an Eric Lindros rookie card, times were changing. Along came Upper Deck with its sleek look, far better than the cardboard-and-bubble gum of Topps (or its brother, O-Pee-Chee). There were other brands (Pro Set, anyone?), and now it’s depressing to think about how much money we dropped on those cards at the time. I thought it was bad when the stock market crashed in 2000, but considering that a card worth $10 on in 1990 might only fetch [...]

Ted vs. On Frozen Blog

AUTHOR: | IN: Links | COMMENTS: None Yet

Ted Leonsis isn’t pleased with the folks at On Frozen Blog regarding an article about the free agent (or lack thereof) signings by the Caps recently. Here’s the rundown: OFB wrote Storm Clouds Forming in the East the other day, obviously talking about the Caps and what, basically, they haven’t done recently. Ted countered with Time Will Tell, a post about OFB’s article. Tonight, OFB wrote Ted, Shall We Have a Wager on Next Spring? where pucksandbooks is wagering $500 to a charity of Ted’s choice to a Hawaiian vacation if the Devils, Flyers, or Penguins knock the Caps out [...]
