Semyon Varlamov is sporting a new mask at practice, and it was just posted on the team’s Flickr page. It looks like a combination of Russian and American imagery. The left side depicts Mount Rushmore, a Capitals Logo, and the American Flag. The right side depicts a Russian Double Headed Eagle, another Caps Logo, and the Russian Flag. In the middle it just says, “Varly”. I’m guessing the Mask was painted overseas, as the American Flag on the backside is painted backwards according to this picture.

Actually, when the flag is worn on the right side of a person’s body, it’s supposed to be with the blue 50-star field pointed forward.
Take a look at an Army uniform. The flag patch is worn on the right arm and it’s “backwards” as well.
Steve is right. It’s union forward.
