Retro Stuff: 88-89 Team Calendar

AUTHOR: | IN: Retro Stuff | COMMENTS: None Yet

What wonderful memories this image, posted by Japer’s Rink, brings back. This particular version is from the 1988-89 Team Calendar apparently, which I did not have. However I did have this same image in poster form, and it hung on my wall as a child. I believe the poster included the words, “A Touch of Class” and was given away at a game by a car dealership. I had previously looked for this image online, as my poster found its way to the garbage long ago. Back in the day at the Capital Centre, I believe the giveaways came more [...]

Elena Alyonka Larionov, the next Anna Kournikova?

AUTHOR: | IN: Random | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Elena Alyonka Larionov is an aspiring singer, not a tennis player. She is a Blonde Russian Hottie, but is that where the similarities end? Miss Larionov is the daughter of NHL great, Igor Larionov, who also happened to be Alex Ovechkin’s favorite player growing up. Larionov appeared on American Idol, and has been featured by wonderful sites such as Puck Daddy and Japer’s Rink. Why? Because she attended the NHL Awards Ceremony last year with the aforementioned Alexander Ovechkin. The picture that you have been staring at to the right is the wonderful couple at this event. So of course [...]

Synchronized Skaters Entertain Verizon Center Crowd

AUTHOR: | IN: Site News | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

All I can say is: Finally. Finally the Capitals put some real entertainment on the ice in between periods. The Squirts still played during the first intermission, but during the second intermission of Friday’s Caps-Lightning game, the rockin red crowd was treated to the awesomeness of the National Blades Synchronized Skating Team (just learned they also appeared March 1). Ya think I’m being sarcastic? I’m not. This is a land where Dancing With the Stars and American Idol are hit TV shows. So why shouldn’t I think figure skating… not just figure skating, but synchronized figure skating… is cool? Well, [...]

eBay Find : 16″ Stained Glass Tiffany Lamp

AUTHOR: | IN: Stuff | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

My wife likes Tiffany Lamps, I like the Capitals. Seems like a valid compromise right? I guess this is the type of thing you could hang over your Capitals themed poker table, if you happen to have one. I’ll keep an eye out on eBay for that item, but in the meantime, if you want an Officially Licensed 16 inch Stained Glass Tiffany Lamp it will cost you $146.19. According to the description, it is the perfect gift for the Hockey Fan in your life. Features include: handmade with stained glass brass or zinc channel depending on the team selected [...]

CuJo Barely Plays, Wins Player of Game

AUTHOR: | IN: Recap | COMMENTS: None Yet

It made me sick to watch, but after the Capitals’ 3-2 overtime loss to Toronto on Tuesday, the player of the game went to the Leafs’ 41-year-old Curtis Joseph, who played only six minutes in net after Martin Gerber got kicked out for pushing the ref. Joseph made nine saves, not including all three shootout attempts. I couldn’t find this stat anywhere, but I can’t imagine a player in history playing only six minutes and earning star of the game. Something interesting to witness. And it had to be against the Capitals. Sigh. Video after the Jump.

eBay Find: Tim Army and Tim Hunter Auto Pucks

AUTHOR: | IN: Stuff | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tim Army and Tim Hunter served as assistant coaches during the Ron Wilson era. If you’ve ever been to one of the Capitals fan events, you know that the Capitals often provide autograph sessions, and typically the shortest line is for the coaches. Well apparently someone on eBay not only got these gents to sign his pucks, but he held onto them for at least 7 years before he pulled the trigger on this auction. I assume he was waiting for the value to be at its highest, but after getting laid off, he couldn’t wait on these investments any [...]

Donald Brashear’s Lamborghini

AUTHOR: | IN: Video | COMMENTS: None Yet

Donald Brashear now drives a Lamborghini, as featured on Caps Red Line Monday on Comcast. Remember those book sales that used to come to your elementary school? They sold the posters and folders of the Lamborghini Countach. Yeah, apparently the Donald had those too. Lets just hope he can get back on the ice soon, I’m worried what will happen if Matt Bradley tries to fight again.
