Hershey Bears

In Hopes of Inspiring a Change on the Ice, Hershey Gives out… Lightbulbs?

Every franchise has its quirks.

Oddball behaviors and unusual good luck charms, rituals and rites.

Vancouver has their Towel Power.  Chicago sings the most raucous anthem in the league.  In Detroit, they throw octupi.

In hopes of prolonging a winning streak, players will repeat any element of their routine that might possibly be a factor. Patrick Roy talked to his posts.  Brent Seabrook has a chocolate fixation.  To break a losing snap, players will cut their hair, change their laces, change their everything until something clicks.

The Caps, Hershey Bears, and South Carolina Stingrays are all losing right now (and if you don’t believe me, check the blogs).  The Caps have lost the last three (and seven of the last ten).  The Bears have lost the last three (and seven of the last ten).  Carolina is ironically in the best shape, having lost the last four (but only five of the last ten).

When teams are losing, they’ll do whatever seems necessary to reverse the trend.  Down in Hershey, tonight’s promotional giveaway is all about inspiration (specifically, inspiring change).  This is why PPL Electric Utilities will be giving away compact florescent light bulbs to every fan in attendance at tonight’s game against the Albany Devils (affiliate of the NJ Devils).

Let’s hope the boys in chocolate and white shine just as brightly as the doorprizes, eh?

She was born in the Midwest, raised along the East Coast, and graduated from a university in Western Canada. A firm believer in context above all else, and a card-carrying on-ice official with USA Hockey, she splits her time between the big picture and the details. When not covering the AHL and ECHL for Caps Outsider, her photography can be found on Behance and Flickr. She also occasionally chimes in about the Hershey Bears on the Power Play Post Show.
