Caps Are Still Second Best

Against First Place Jets, Caps Rally but Fall in OT

The first period had the making of a shalaking, but after going down 2-0 against the first place Winnipeg Jets, the Caps fought back from every deficit before tying the game in the third period and falling, 5-4, in overtime.

Goals by Pierre-Luc Dubois, Taylor Raddysh, Tom Wilson and Alex Ovechkin would ordinarily be enough to win a game with Logan Thompson in net, but against the best team in the league, the lackluster first period and mistake in overtime was too much to overcome.

I thought we made a lot of mental mistakes throughout that game. In a game like that against a team like that, I was a little bit disappointed,” Coach Spencer Carbery said after the game. He also noted that he probably should have played Ethen Frank in overtime since his speed could be a game-changer, and had promoted him to the second line during the game in an effort to shake things up.

Ovechkin, meanwhile, scored his 877th career goal, leaving him only 18 goals behind breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time NHL goal record.
