After Adam Johnson’s Death, T.J. Oshie Encourages Neck Guards

After the tragic death of pro hockey player Adam Johnson, Caps forward T.J. Oshie, co-founder of Warroad Hockey, was sporting one of his company’s cut-resistant neck guards for the game against the Islanders on Thursday.

“For youth, I hope it shows them that it’s really not a distraction. From my game, I thought I played pretty decent tonight, honestly, it was actually really comfortable. Youth players, I hope if they’re able I hope they can get some type of neck protection. I didn’t even notice it after one shift tonight.”

Oshie’s company is currently sold out of the base layers to the public but certainly has his own way of getting more of the shirts for himself and teammates.

“(For) NHL guys I think it’s super important that they know it’s gonna be available. Maybe the teams can help provide that. We’re grown men. If you don’t want to do it, you know. For at least now, in the middle of the season I don’t know if it’s necessary to mandate it. You can make your own choices. I made my choice for my kids. I want to stick around for them. I just want to try to decrease the chance for injury.”
