Laviolette: Lindgren Playing ‘Awesome’

(Caps Outsider)

Charlie Lindgren wasn’t called upon as often as he has in his third start of the season, but the Caps backup goaltender made key saves to help the Washington Capitals pickup a point as they fell 3-2 in overtime to the Vegas Golden Knights.

One of Lindgren’s first saves of the game was one for the highlight reel. He robbed Jonathan Marchessault, who was left wide open on the backside.

“He’s coming out of the corner of my eyes. I certainly see him,” Lindgren, who made his first home stat in a Capitals uniform said. “So it’s definitely a read and react play.”

In all, Lindgren made 28 saves in the losing effort, for a .903 save percentage.

Lindgren came up big again in the second period, with another reflex save, which at the time, preserved the Caps’ one-goal lead.

“Chuckie played unbelievable for us in net,” Marcus Johansson said.

Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette had nothing but high praise for his backup goaltender.

“He played great. He gave us every chance to win a game.”

After two years of up-and-down goaltending, the Caps seem to have confidence in their netminders.

When asked how he feels about his goaltending, Laviolette replied simply, “awesome.”
