Ben’s Chili Bowl, the famous restaurant on U St., celebrated its 60th anniversary on Wednesday. The Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards organizations joined the festivities as Caps great Peter Bondra and BobDandridge, who played for the Bullets, presented Virginia Ali, the widow of founder Ben Ali, jerseys to commemorate the anniversary.

Ron Diehl, a Caps season ticket holder for 26 years and D.C. United employee, also helped by making the “Ali 60” Caps jersey, which Bondra presented to Ali. He made sure to put the Stanley Cup patch on it.

Ben Ali died in 2009, but the restaurant is still going strong.  Stop by for a half-smoke. It’s right across the street from U St. Cardozo Metro.
