Stingrays Week 6 Recap: On the Road Again

To open their 10 game road trip, the South Carolina Stingrays went 1-for-2 in games and completed a trade along the way.

The Stingrays traded Kyle Kraemer to the Colorado Eagles for Jordan Kwas on Tuesday. Kwas played collegiate hockey at the University of Alaska-Anchorage with now fellow Stingray Brett Cameron.

Derek DeBlois, six points (three goals, three assists) in nine games with the Stingrays, was loaned back to the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL. He began the year with them, but was released from his professional tryout after two games.

No goals and three fights were follwed by three goals was how the first two periods went in the Stingrays opening game against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. The Swamp Rabbits scored all three in the second and held off the Stingrays late rally in the third to win 3-2. Andrew Rowe, on the power play, and Joe Devin scored for South Carolina in the loss.

The next night, Mark Dekanich returned to the net to record a 39 save shutout against the Atlanta Gladiators. Colin Mulvey scored his third goal, Brett Cameron added his fourth, and Tyler Lewington added the third period insurance goal for his first professional goal.

NEXT WEEK

Tonight, November 24th, the Stingrays continue their road trip with the first of two against the Orlando Solar Bears. The teams will break for Thanksgiving and return to action Saturday night.

Update: Stingrays sign Paul Rodrigues. via the Stingrays:

This marks Rodrigues’ second stint with South Carolina. He was a member of the Stingrays during the 2013-2014 season, skating in 40 games for the club and scoring 15 points (seven goals, eight assists).

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound forward joins the Stingrays from the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). Rodrigues notched seven points (two goals, five assists) in eight games with the Ice Flyers this season.

Rodrigues spent the majority of the 2014-2015 season with the Greenville Road Warriors, scoring 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) in 53 games. The SUNY-Oswego graduate is in his third professional season.

Rodrigues has joined the team in Orlando and will wear #16 with the Stingrays.
