Capitals and Fans Fight Cancer

The Washington Capitals took the ice for warmups against the Detroit Red Wings not rocking their usual red. They chose a different color for a special occasion.

The color purple.

The Capitals, along with the coaches, player personnel and even the broadcasters, were clad in a deep purple for the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative.

The players jerseys included a Hockey Fights Cancer Patch and ribbons. The jerseys color is officially “lavender,” the official color of the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer Campaign.

The purple jerseys were auctioned off during the game, where fans could purchase the autographed warm up jerseys of every player. All proceeds will go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s National Capital Area Chapter to help fight against cancer. Last season, the auction raised more than $35,000!
