Grubauer Throws Punches in Reading Loss

Here’s something you don’t see every day. Caps goaltending prospect and recent ECHL goalie of the week Philipp Grubauer threw some punches at Alexandre Beauregard and took a roughing penalty against his former team in a 3-2 loss on Friday in South Carolina. The Stingrays scored on the ensuing  power play.

The normally level-headed and soft-spoken German has been playing well for the Reading Royals this season – just as he did last season for the Stingrays – and is once again one of the top goalies in the ECHL. He’d likely be playing up in the AHL this season if it weren’t for the lockout, while Braden Holtby is getting the majority of the starts in Hershey.
